Dr John McKeown
Motivated by a calling to the cause of good, growth and gain in the lives of others, I aim to serve the school community by working together to enrich the educational experience of both students and teachers.
My primary route to achieve those objectives is through communicating to all stakeholders and by creating knowledge that is of benefit to the school and to the wider community. Through my breadth of experience and academic expertise, I recognize the value of colleagues as learners and help them to build success upon success. I work on the twin principles of honesty and integrity and serve as a role model for the core values of the school.
As an administrator who has handled parent, colleague and public relations, I am a skilled communicator who intentionally searches for development ideas from constituent members of the community. Through persuasive argument, I am able to convince others toward a point of view or direction. In this motivational context, I can fulfill marketing and promotional objectives while satisfying all parties involved.
I am decisive: I can communicate a clear vision, handle crises efficiently, and focus on the must-win conflicts. I manage disputes diplomatically, finding satisfactory resolution for those involved. To achieve these ends, I am able to both give and receive feedback, and act on it effectively. Having found myself in situations of transition, I am accustomed to managing change, and change processes, smoothly.
I look for new options and challenges and can identify problems in order to find alternative solutions suitable for various time frames. I share the big picture while carrying out specific details to craft a plan into a reality. I deliberately involve others in the process and delegate various aspects of the implementation by building teams supportive of each other, aligned to the aims of the school. I manage resources, facilities and people efficiently.
From the combination of academic background, and practical and extensive school experience, I use a skill set that stimulates the creation of a learning community, and helps a school operate as a learning organization, effectively.
I resourcefully assess and identify school needs and have excellent interpersonal, communication, management skills to make improvements. I learn quickly from role models, experience and from structured observation. As instructional leader and school manager, I have expertise in program, curriculum and governance to support a vision of excellence for both staff and students.
A positive force for change, I put my energy and enthusiasm into practice through persistence and with empathy for diverse perspectives.
